Syrian Border Tense Following Alleged Strikes
IDF units stationed on Israel’s northern border were on high alert Friday as the Spokesperson’s unit confirmed that air defense units had detected a surface-to-air missile which was fired from territory controlled by forces loyal to Syria’s Assad regime landing in an open field in the Golan Heights. The IDF denied regime claims that an Israeli-launched missiles had been shot down over Syrian territory or even that Israeli aircraft had been engaged in strikes inside Syria overnight Thursday, as has been reported by various Arab media outlets.

In related news Jan Egeland, the head of the UN Humanitarian Taskforce for Syria, told reporters on Thursday that the situation in northern Syria’s Idlib Province is deeply alarming, particularly the Russian airstrikes which have been carried out in recent days. "We are very worried for recent developments," he said. “Over recent days we have seen provocations and counter-provocations, exchanges of mortars and grenades... We have seen increasing incursions in both directions…this is the worst possible kind of action in the worst possible place. It is really playing with a gigantic powder keg in the middle of three million civilians.”
