Senior PA Officials Survive Assassination Attempt in Gaza
An assassination attempt on the lives of Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah and PA General Intelligence Services Chief Majid Faraj occurred Tuesday morning when they entered the Gaza Strip and a bomb exploded near their motorcade. The PA blamed the Hamas terror militia which rules the Strip, but Hamdallah struck a magnanimous tone. "There is a big plot against us all," he said. "What happened today strengthens our determination to achieve reconciliation. I will return to the Gaza Strip."

PA President Mahmoud Abbas’s office said, “Hamas bears full responsibility for the cowardly targeting of the prime minister’s motorcade in Gaza,” despite Hamas’ statement condemning the attack. Hamas took offense, condemning the PA for condemning it and broadly hinting that Israel was responsible for the attack. Following that statement, a spokesman for Abbas said "The attack against the government of consensus is an attack against the unity of the Palestinian people."

Religious Affairs Minister Resigns for Health Reasons
Amidst political tension and the lingering possibility of early elections for the Knesset, 63-year-old Religious Services Minister David Azoulay resigned from the Knesset on Monday for health reasons, while retaining his cabinet portfolio. He explained that although he must soon begin treatments for cancer, he intends to “continue to lead the Religious Services Ministry, with God’s help, until the end of the term, with the blessing of the Council of Torah Sages.”

Islamic Jihad Terrorist Dies in Apparent ‘work accident’
Reports out of the Gaza Strip over the weekend indicate that an operative of the Islamic Jihad terror militia died when a bomb he was working on exploded prematurely Saturday evening. “It is no surprise that a person who plays with fire ultimately harms himself,” commented IDF Maj.-Gen. Yoav Mordechai, the Defense Ministry official responsible for liaising with Palestinians.
